What is Libby/Bridges/Overdrive?
First, Libby, Bridges/Overdrive are the same platform.
This service provides ebooks, magazines and audiobooks free to users through their local library. This service is provided to patrons of Bertha Bartlett Public Library and Gilbert Library who live in Story City , Gilbert, or rural Story County, Iowa.

What is Hoopla?
Hoopla is a streaming service that provides access to online books, audiobooks, music, movies, comics, television, kids educational programming and more!! This is a paid subscription made possible through generous donations to the Bertha Bartlett Public Library Foundation for BBPL patrons who are residents of Story, Boone, Hamilton, and Hardin Counties
How to use Hoopla
1. Get Started
Registering for Hoopla is easy!! All you need is:
- Your library card number
- An email address that has not had a Hoopla account before or has had all Hoopla accounts deleted
- A device (smartphone, tablet, e-reader, personal computer or even a smart TV )
You can find your library card number on your card under the barcode or by giving us call (515-733-2685).
Extra tips:
- If you have a Gilbert Library Card - click on Bertha Bartlett Public Library to register
- After you are registered, you will login to Hoopla with the email you chose when you registered.
- If you have had a Hoopla account in the past with another library, you will either need to delete that account or use a different email to use Hoopla through Bertha Bartlett Public Library or Gilbert Library.
- You cannot use the "Binge Pass" on a Smart TV, but you can use it on a PC, tablet or phone and cast to your TV

1. The first time you go to Hoopla you'll need to register. Select the Get Started Today button.
2. When the Your Info Window pops up, use your preferred email and create a password.
3. You'll see a list of local libraries - select Bertha Bartlett Public Library
4. Enter your card number. In the future when you use Hoopla, you'll just login with the email and password you chose.
5. Hit continue to start downloading popular movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, comics and TV shows!
2. Search or Browse
You can get started by browsing the covers, browsing by genre, or performing a search. Click on the image below to see the full size.
3. Checkout an item
- To check out an item, select the cover.
- Select borrow.
- The title will download in the app. While it's downloading, the blue borrow button will turn grey and say downloading. When it turns blue again it's ready to read or play.
- If you don't want to check it out right now you can choose the heart instead and Hoopla will save it to your favorites so you can get to it later.
Checkout Periods
Checkout periods vary by media type:
- Audiobooks 21 days
- Comics 21 days
- eBooks 21 days
- Movies 72 hours
- Music 7 days
- Television 72 hours
Special Features
- All content can be viewed, read or listened to from the same app on your device.
- Movies and television can be cast or streamed to your big screen.
- Once you are validated and logged into Hoopla, you will be synced across your devices.
- All titles are always available--no waiting!
