Help us prepare to move our books to the new addition by helping us build 100 rolling book carts.
We will use these carts to move the books from our existing library to the new addition in January. The books will then remain on the carts (in our new meeting room) while the existing building is renovated (new carpet, paint, fire sprinkler system and, if we can raise the needed money, lighting) this winter. By June 2025, our renovation will be complete, and we will roll the carts full of books back to the existing library and place them back in the bookcases. The carts will not only allow us to easily move our 40,000+ books back and forth saving us over $80,000 in moving and storage fees, but will also keep the collection available to check out throughout the project.
In January, we will begin using the new portion of the building and the Broad street entrance. Once the renovation is complete in late May/early June, we will go back to using the new Park Avenue entrance and will have access to our entire amazing space.
In June, we will have 100 carts to pass on. Some carts will available to purchase (let us know if you'd like one or more for personal storage), and we are hope some enterprising individual/ organization may want to rent/sell the carts to other libraries. We are open to your ideas!!
First we need to get the carts built - please sign up (info below) to help be part of this landmark project!
Sessions are Friday, November 8, 9-noon, (12-3 is full but we won't turn away extra hands) and Sunday, November 10, 12 - 3pm.
A special thanks to Story City Building for delivering materials and assisting with cutting the plywood to size!! We also want to thank Roland-Story High School shop students led by Nathan Clausen. The high school has delivered 24 carts to date (8 more are in the works) and thanks to an Eagle project this spring led by Trace Turner, 28 additional carts were completed. This leaves just 40 carts to go!!
